Gay Movies To Watch 2024

I am so swamped with the number of gay movies that is available on the Internet for me to watch. Here are some of the ones I watched.

After Sundown (2023) – Thailand Boy’s Love movie with a bit of horror. I don’t like the protagonist – portrayed as effeminate gay guy.

 

Krampack (2000) aka Nico and Dani – a movie about mutual jerk off among boys. I love one of the actors – the other one doesn’t appeal much. The gay guy is cute though.

 

After School (2023) – is a nice movie. It’s about 4 group of friends who reminisce their high school years with a gay teacher who touched their lives.

 

Glue (2006) – two guys – one of them gay – who falls for another. Didn’t like the cinematography.

 

Concerned Citizen (2022) – an Israeli film about 2 guys in a relationship, living together. Their situation got tested when one of the guys witness a police brutality. The guy reported to the authority about his planted tree that’s being used as a “post” by an Arab guy.

 

In Between Seasons (2018) – is about two Korean guys. They got into a car accident and one of the guys went to coma. The boyfriend dealt with the mother of the guy – and it’s a whirlwind relationship. It’s heartwarming and deals with the issue of health among gay guys in a relationship.

 

Reunion (1989) – is based on a novel. It’s about the friendship of a German boy (portrayed by a very handsome actor) and a Jewish boy. Their friendship got tested when Hitler rise into power and started persecuting Jews in Germany.

 

My Policeman (2022) – stars Harry Style of One Direction. He’s a closeted gay guy who choose to live a married life. His love interest suffered years in jail as a consequence of the actions of his wife. In the end, they share time together when the gay guy suffered stroke. It’s a very heartwarming movie.

Vo Dien Gia Huy–Gorgeous Vietnamese Actor

I recently watched “Goodbye, Mother” – a Vietnamese film about American lovers who went back to Vietnam for a religious ceremony – and to face typical conservative society’s view of gay guys.

The film is great. This will definitely be one of the greatest gay movies of all time for me. It’s very similar to what I experienced here in the Philippines and tackles family issue, land disputes among family, expectations from family regarding settling down and having kids and the typical homophobia from the rest of society.

Vo Dien Gia Huy plays the character of Ian – the lover of Van, who went home to Vietnam. Ian got closed and accepted by the grandmother, even though he loves another man. Grandparents are really great – accepting and all that. The actor played the role very well – he’s lovable, charming and the embodiment of the ideal boyfriend.

Gay Movies 2022-2023 Edition

I was able to download and watched a few gay-themed movies over the weekends and some are very nice to watch.

 

“Hablame de ti” (2022) – This one gives me the same vibe as “The Way He Looks”. The protagonist Chava also has curly hairs. The cute guy is Carlos – the one who finds Chava attractive. Carlos is gay and confident and they’re both swimmers. Chava has a lot going on on his plate – finding out that he has a half-sister and that his father has another family. There are about 4-5 kissing sceneds and each one is romantic. I like movies that portray gay characters as “regular” guys, confident and very likeable. I highly recommend this movie. One of the best movies of all time for me. Martin Saracho, the actor who portrayed Carlos, is very gorgeous for me.

“About Us But Not About Us” (2022) – Is a Filipino movie starring Elijah Canlas and Romnick Sarmenta. It’s unique because they portrayed 3 characters in this movie. Lots of dialogue though and not even a kissing scene. The story revolves about manipulation, being sly, stealing works of fiction and having alter accounts. Very relate-able in today’s situation.

 

“Lie With Me” (2022) – is about a novelist who returned to his boyhood town in France and recalling all the good times he has with his closeted friend (portrayed by Julien De Saint Jean). The story is great, the lovemaking scenes are great. Also a recommended movie. Somehow it’s similar to “Brokeback Mountain”.

“I Love You More” (2023) – is about a guy meeting his email/text pal and being disappointed because that person is really not into monogamous relationship. Relate-able in today’s situation but I don’t recommend this movie. So much drama, with his family and such.

“Golden Delicious” (2022) – is about a Chinese guy with a cheating father and conservative Asian upbringing. He soon realize that he likes guys – including his new neighbor who’s openly gay, into basketball and is very attractive and confident about his sexuality. The movie is about the struggles of gay guys in traditional Asian families.

 

“Norwegian Dream” (2023) – is about a closeted gay guy who fell in love with an African-American openly gay guy. It’s also about the difficulties of working in a fishing (tuna) company in Norway for someone who’s from Poland. The actor playing the lead character of Robert (Hubert Milkowski) is very sexy. I like butch gay guys with very short, military hairstyle. The movie is also about work, promotion, strikes, labor negotiations and such.

 

“Egoist” (2022) – is about a butch gay guy who fell in love with a hustler/call boy and decides to sponsor him. The young gym instructor is very gorgeous and naïve/innocent looking. Unfortunately the young guy died in the middle of the film and the story dealt with him taking care of his lover’s mom. This film is unique for me because it’s the first film I watch that tackles this kind of topic – taking care of a lover’s mom…. until the end. Nice sex scenes as well.Hio Miyazawa is the cute Ryota.

“Sing In Love” (2022) – I didn’t even finished this movie. It’s about sexual assault on a teacher in Japan and about obsession with that teach. This has too much violence in a movie.

 

“Sublime” (2022) – is about two childhood friends and one of them (the younger, cuter one) fell in love with his best friend. No heavy kissing and sex scenes but just a mild, tender kiss from his friend Felipe. It’s about the struggle of guys in their puberty period and about wet dreams (sort of). I myself experienced that during puberty. Martín Miller portrayed Manu (short for Manuel) and he’s very gorgeous with curly hair.

“Jitters” (2010) – this film is about first kisses between two guys. They’re both good looking, skinny, but good looking. There’s just so much drama happening between their friends and there are plenty of them. It somehow taken the spotlight out of the two lovers. There are some scenes that is similar in concept to “Love, Simon” like the sex scene with girls, and they did it out of drunkness and confusion. I find the actor Haraldur Stefansson named Markus very sexy in this movie. He’s a bit of a bi-guy who’s playing a butch hairdresser. I love his long, curly, blonde hair.

“Red, White & Royal Blue” (2023) – is about the son of a US president falling in love with a prince of England. This is similar in concept with another gay movie where the prince of England is gay. It’s about maintaining the royal image that there’s no gay member of the royal family. “Red, White & Royal Blue” is cuter and more Hollywood style. Prince Henry is cute. He is played by Nicholas Galitzine who is very good-looking.

 

“Stranizza d’amuri” (2023) – is based on a real-life event in Sicily. It’s about two young boys falling in love with each other in an ultra-conservative small town. One of the guys, with the Afro hairstyle, reminds me of Matt Evans (Pedro Penduko) and is very loveable and cute. Actor’s name is Gabriele Pizzurro.

“Beautiful Beings” (2022) – is about a group of 4 boys (one of them was adopted since he’s an outcast). Two of the actors are gorgeous -- Snorri Rafn Frímannsson (Siggi) and Birgir Dagur Bjarkason (Addi). This reminds me of the film “Stand by Me” (1986) starring River Phoenix. This time it’s a British small town.

 

“Le Paradis” (The Lost Boys) 2023 – is about two juvenile delinquents who fell in love at a youth reformation center. Again, I love the portrayal of Julien De Saint Jean here. He sports a military hairstyle and he portrays a tattoo artist here. Very masculine.

“Mates” (2023) – is about camping and about an innocent young man who’s not yet aware that he’s gay. Until a camper, an openly gay one, approached him and befriended him. James Wiles is dorky on this movie but cute.

“Since The Last Time We Met” (2023) – is about former lovers who met again after 15 years. They rekindled their romance even though the younger, cuter guy is already married. It gives the vibes of Coco Martin’s movie “Daybreak”, “Muli” (Cogie Domingo) or the movie “Weekend” (2011). Esteban Recagno (David) is very gorgeous in this movie.

“Weirdos” – a black and white film set in the 70s that I started watching but I find boring, thus, never finished. About two young lovers who haven’t had sex yet. They hitchhike their way to a beach to attach a party.

“Of an Age” (2022) – an Australian movie I also started watching but find boring, so I stopped. There’s this hysterical girl at the start of the movie calling her boyfriend.

Martin Saracho of “Hablame de ti” (2022 film)

I’ve been watching a lot of gay-themed movies lately including this one, “Hablame de ti” (“Tell Me About Yourself”). It gives the same vibes as the 2014 movie “The Way He Looks” wherein the protagonist is also curly-haired.

Martin Saracho plays the gay character Carlos – the love interest of Chava (the curly-haired guy). He sports a short hair look and it’s very sexy. He’s a swimmer and fairly confident about his gender. I love gay characters in films that resembles Carlos.

Martin Saracho is a Mexican actor and director.

 

 

 

 

That Cute French Guy, Julien De Saint Jean

I was able to watch some gay-theme movies this weekend and two of these movies star the same guy: Julien De Saint Jean.

I watched “The Lost Boys” and “Lie With Me” and the latter made me cry ala “Brokeback Mountain”. Julien De Saint Jean is so good in these two movies. His face reminds me of Josh Hutcherson and his active is superb. I really felt the emotion of the character he portrayed.

He’s scheduled to appear in the upcoming movie “Le Comte de Monte-Cristo” (2024) and I can’t wait to watch it. His FB page is in French that says he lives in Paris, France now and his IG account only gave his agency: Laurent Grégoire – Adéquat.

Hopefully he’ll be more famous.

The Kings Cross Steelers are a British rugby team, based in London. Founded in 1995 it was the world's first gay-inclusive rugby union club, and is therefore the oldest such club in the world. Its founding sparked the beginning of a much larger gay inclusive rugby movement which to date includes over 60 gay inclusive rugby clubs across the world. Wikipedia 

I’m surprised that there’s a gay-inclusive rugby union club – and there’s a movie about them. Gays and rugby or other contact sports doesn’t seem to blend in well. But this knowledge proved me wrong. I would love to see this movie.

Latest Gay-Themed Movies 2020

While being vigilant for Super Storm Typhoon #RollyPH to pass Metro Manila, I spend the time looking at the latest gay-themed movies from my primary source -- Gay Dash Torrents Dot Net. I then looked for the summary of these movies from Wikipedia and IMDb and here's what I found out.

 

East Palace, West Palace (1996) aka Behind the Forbidden City. Chinese movie. "...In China, homosexuality isn't illegal, but homosexuals are routinely persecuted by police and arrested for "hooliganism". The film focuses on a young gay writer A-Lan who, being attracted to a young policeman, manages to have himself interrogated for a whole night. His life-story which he tells during the interrogation reflects the general repression of the Chinese society. The policeman's attitude shifts from the initial revulsion to fascination and, finally, to attraction..."

The movie looks great. However, I had enough of gay movies with the theme of persecution. I'm trying to look for more... good vibes gay movies.

 

Mr. Heart -- 2020 Korean BL. I think I have lots of BL series watching in the past 6+ months of lockdown. This, however, is the movie version.

Friendsgiving (2020) -- protagonists are mainly girls. Not my type

Two Short Films by Marco Berger -- Absent and Plan B by an Argentinian director.

El reloj (2008) -- Is about two teenage boys who are waiting at a bus stop. They talk a bit and find that they know each other from that one double date with their respective girlfriends. Pablo offers Javier a taxi ride to his place and once there, invites him in. After watching television with his cousin, Pablo asks Javier to sleep over. Once in bed, almost naked, they get ready to go to sleep.

Una última voluntad (2007) -- A man awaits his execution by a firing-squad. His last wish before dying is a kiss and there are only men.

The Acrobat (2019) -- drama film made in Canada. The 3rd in a trilogy following Lost Song and Love in the Time of Civil War.

Based on the screenshots, this movie has full nudity like full-blown BJ. It's similar to “Theo & Hugo”.

 

El cazador (Young Hunter) -- 2020 film. A 15-year-old young man burning with desire to have sex with another man gets involved with a manipulative and exploitative porn plot. (IMDb)

A film by Marco Berger. Looks interesting. I think it's similar to that Brent Corrigan movie. Will download

The Gold Rimmed Glasses -- 1987 Italian drama film starring Rupert Everett. It follows a Jewish student and a homosexual doctor who suffer persecution in Fascist Italy.

Will download. I'm into historical movies involving Jews ala Schindler's List

 

Beach Rats (2017) -- American drama film. Boring

Taxi zum klo (1981 film) -- the film documents gay culture in West Berlin in the brief moment post gay liberation and before the onset of AIDS, around 1980. Wikipedia

Not much into gay movies revolving around the theme of HIV/AIDS. It's been a cliche to equate gay movies to the disease. I want more good vibes gay movie like Love, Simon.

Lagpas (2010 Pinoy film) -- no summary on IMDb. Will download anyway.

 

Mala Noche (1986 film) -- (also known as Bad Night) is a 1986 American drama film based on Walt Curtis' autobiographical novel. The film was shot in 16 mm with black-and-white at Portland, Oregon. IMDb

More like an artistic kind of movie. Not my type

The Boys in the Band (2020) -- At a birthday party in 1968 New York, a surprise guest and a drunken game leave seven gay friends reckoning with unspoken feelings and buried truths. IMDb

Looks like a romantic or comedy movie. Not much into this type of gay movie.

Anima Ardens -- a dance choreography featuring fully naked men. Not my type

Moffie (2019 drama film) -- Based on André Carl van der Merwe's book, Moffie (a derogatory Afrikaans term for a gay man) follows the story of Nicholas van der Swart: from a very young age, he realizes he is different. Try as he may, he cannot live up to the macho image expected of him by his family, by his heritage. At the age of 19 he is conscripted into the South African army and finds his every sensibility offended by a system close to its demise, and yet still in full force. Set during the South African border war against communism, this is a long overdue story about the emotional and physical suffering endured by countless young men. IMDb

Looks interesting ala Brokeback Mountain. Downloading right now.

Partners (1982) -- A straight police detective is unnerved when ordered to go undercover with a gay police clerk, as a couple, to solve a series of murders in the gay community. IMDb

Looks like a romantic comedy (rom com) to me. Not my type

Dry Wind (2020) -- The area around Catalan in Brazil's state of Goiás is dry, very dry. Sandro's life here is somewhat monotonous. He works in a fertilizer factory and divides his days between the city club, work, soccer with friends and city parties. He has a purely sexual relationship with his colleague Ricardo. He always seems to be a bit of an outsider, not comfortable in his own skin, not really belonging. When Maicon, a man straight out of a Tom of Finland illustration, shows up in their small town and flirts with Ricardo, his burgeoning feelings of jealousy set a change in motion. IMDb

Based on the screenshots, it's more of club-scened movie. It has BJ scenes, in all its glory. Not my type

No Hard Feelings (German: Futur Drei) is a German drama film, directed by Faraz Shariat and released in 2020. The film stars Benjamin Radjaipour as Parvis, a confidently out but immature gay young man of Iranian descent living in Germany, who commits a minor criminal infraction and is sentenced to perform community service at a refugee detention centre, where he falls in love with new immigrant Amon (Eidin Jalali). No offense to my feminine-type, fellow members of the LGBTQIA+ community, but I'm not into movies where the protagonist is a bit... flamboyant.

 

Detroit Evolution (2020 TV movie) -- It's been one year since Markus freed the androids of Detroit. The most advanced android ever created, Nines, has evolved past his initial programming as a ruthless hunter, and now protects the city as a DPD detective. But as new crimes and dangers start to threaten RK900 himself, he must also juggle his growing fondness for his partner, Detective Gavin Reed, and navigate everything that they mean to one another. IMDb

Looks interesting. I like gay movies where the characters are straight-acting (like Brokeback Mountain). This movie looks interesting.

Theo and Hugo

It is a borderline French gay porn and indie film set in Paris and was released in 2016. The scene starts in a club where orgies are held. Theo and Hugo met, had sex and then decided to go out on a stroll in the streets of Paris at dawn. The streets are mostly empty. They rode a bike, bought some kebal from a store that opened early, went to a park to talk more. I can't remember whether Theo was the top during the sex act, but the top guy decided to penetrate the bottom with a condom (they refer to it as a rubber).

The conversation turned into a heated argument because the bottom is apparently HIV positive but is taking meds regularly. The bottom guy encouraged the top guy to immediately visit a hospital after calling the AIDS hotline. They proceeded to the hospital one at a time. Eventually they meet there, and got advised from the nurse. This is where the education part about HIV happened. Apparently, if they take some pills within 24 hours (and continued it until the 28th day), the risk of being infected with the AIDS virus will be gone. They were advised to go back to the hospital 4 days after to have HIV tests.

After going to the hospital, they decided to go to the top's apartment, riding the 1st metro train for the day and chitchatting with an elderly rider. Upon reaching the apartment (which he refer to as a maid's chamber), a hot scene was shown where the bottom really appreciated the top's asset. Eventually they decided to visit the other guy's apartment.

This film reminds me of the 2008 Pinoy movie "Day Break" starring Coco Martin, wherein there are only 2 actors in the entire movie and the movie's settings is just within 24 hours. The film is mostly dialogue's between the two characters. In Theo and Hugo, it's about meeting a potential boyfriend -- how it all starts. Sometimes, love can really happen in weird places. Sometimes, all it takes is eye contact. Towards the end of the movie, I believe it was Theo who sums up a gay relationship -- where it starts, where it's headed, how long it might take (same 20 years), and eventually breaks up. What's important is how the two parties enjoy their time together.

I love this film.

Center of My World

This 2016 German coming-of-age romantic drama movie reminds me of "The Love of Siam". It's about this guy who arrived from a summer vacation to find that he became distant to his sister (who he grew up together). They grew up without knowing who their father was. Their mom had a lot of relationships after their biological father but it never lasted. The film is full of family drama but at the center of it is the protagonist -- a gay guy who has a close female friend.

Their close friendship was tested when the new guy at school -- Nicholas -- became their classmate. I got star struck with the German actor who played Nicholas (Jannik Schümann). I love his blue eyes, his build and his accent. He’s definitely the most gorgeous German actor I’ve seen on film. The film by the way is in German language with English subtitle.

The protagonist met Nicholas when they were boys, in a supermarket. It was a onetime accidental meet-up, but the protagonist clearly remember young Nicholas' eyes, smile and wink. The scene at the shower room and at the vacation house are wonderfully done.

I would rate this film 4.5 out of 5.

Jongens (Boys) 2014 Film

It’s raining for almost 2 weeks now, non-stop, due to #Habagat2016. So I’m stuck at home for the longest time ever and I’ve been watching films – a lot of it.

One of the most beautiful film I watched lately (based on a recent Facebook suggestion of feel-good gay movies) is “Jongens” (translated as “Boys”). It’s a 2014 coming of age drama movie produced in the Netherlands (Dutch or Holland). It stars Gijs Blom, Ko Zandvliet, Jonas Smulders and Stijn Taverne and was directed by Mischa Kamp. The film was released on February 9, 2014.

Sieger (Blom) and Stef (Taverne) were best friends who qualified as runners along with Marc (Zandvliet) and Tom. They compose a 4-man relay team. Sieger and Marc became close to each other but Sieger is still not sure about his sexuality.
