Gerard Christopher as Superboy

When I was in elementary, there is a TV show called “The Adventures of Superboy”. Actor Gerard Christopher wear the red cape of The Last Son of Krypton. I really loved this TV show and it defined my elementary and high school years when it comes to TV. Other TV shows I love includes “Seaquest DSV” and “Benji, Zax and the Alien Prince”.

It’s good to see this old picture of Gerard Christopher as Superboy. I wonder what happened to him after his role.

Ezra Miller–The Flash

After seeing the cameo of Ezra Miller a.k.a. The Flash in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice”, I got interested with him. He really sounded very joyful and funny, unlike Grant Gustin in CW’s The Flash (sounded lonely).

Fans of Ezra Millers are dub Ezrators and I’m probably one. I also learn that he’s set to appear in the Justice League movie (2017) and The Flash movie (2018). Ezra Miller also will appear in the highly-anticipated movie “Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them”.

The only other movie that I saw where Ezra Miller appeared is the movie “The Perks of Being a Wallflower”. I didn’t notice him there.

Doctor Strange

Finally, a Doctor Strange movie. I’ve been a huge fan since high school. I also watched a recent animated film featuring Doctor Strange – “Hulk Where Monsters Dwell”. It’s pretty amazing for a Marvel animated film.

Now, I can’t wait for the live action movie. I guess Doctor Strange will also appear in the upcoming Marvel movie “The Avengers: Infinity War” – the Avengers vs Thanos. This will also include Black Panther who will appear on a separate movie.

For now, let’s all watch the upcoming movie “Doctor Strange”.

Jongens (Boys) 2014 Film

It’s raining for almost 2 weeks now, non-stop, due to #Habagat2016. So I’m stuck at home for the longest time ever and I’ve been watching films – a lot of it.

One of the most beautiful film I watched lately (based on a recent Facebook suggestion of feel-good gay movies) is “Jongens” (translated as “Boys”). It’s a 2014 coming of age drama movie produced in the Netherlands (Dutch or Holland). It stars Gijs Blom, Ko Zandvliet, Jonas Smulders and Stijn Taverne and was directed by Mischa Kamp. The film was released on February 9, 2014.

Sieger (Blom) and Stef (Taverne) were best friends who qualified as runners along with Marc (Zandvliet) and Tom. They compose a 4-man relay team. Sieger and Marc became close to each other but Sieger is still not sure about his sexuality.

a1 Manila Concert October 23, 2016

One of my favorite boybands from the 90s is holding a concert in the country – one in Cebu and one in Manila. I’ll be attending the Manila Concert on October 23, 2016 at the KIA Theater, Araneta Center, Cubao, Quezon City, Metro Manila. It’s formerly called the New Frontier Theater.

I’m a fan of a1 and other boybands from the 90s. In fact, I included their name in my college thesis “Thank you” page. It’s sad though that from 4 members, they’re now down to 3 (I’m missing Paul Marazzi). It’s also good to know that they’ve revived their career after appearing in the British TV Show “The Big Reunion”.

See you there at the concert! This event is brought to us by Concert Republic.

Kid Flash and Season 3 of The Flash

Kid Flash aka Keiynan Lonsdale

Kid Flash aka Keiynan Lonsdale

I’m very excited for Season 3 of CW’s “The Flash”. It’s the story of Barry Allen and this time, Season 3 would have a storyline called “Flashpoint”. I believe the story would be similar in concept to the animated film “Justice League The Flashpoint Paradox”. I don’t know where Kid Flash would come from but he’s from the animated show “Young Justice”.

I wish the cast and crew of “The Flash” success on their Season 3.

Smart Break Barriers

I would love to commend Smart Communications in this wonderful and timely video. This will definitely help in breaking down barriers and in welcoming change for the LGBT community. I hope similar huge companies in the Philippines will follow this breakthrough.

Global Staffer

I received a message from Global Staffer on my Facebook fan page in 2014 and it’s only now that I had the chance to look at their work on YouTube and it’s very interesting. Here’s the copy of the letter and some of their videos:

Hi Elmer,

I noticed that you have been writing interesting articles about trends in the Filipino workforce.
We are currently working on an initiative that captures a very interesting trend in the industry. Are you interested in talking to me about an exclusive article on this topic?

We have been noticing a trend that many multinationals are no longer only moving into the Philippines to outsource their mundane tasks. Many of them have realized that Filipino workers are smart and they have much more to gain from having their Philippines operations do the heavy lifting for tasks that require a lot of brain power (not only tasks that don’t require a lot of thinking).

One example of such a company is our company, Global Staffer. Our parent company in Los Angeles thought that they will come to the Philippines to outsource some basic tasks such as setting up appointments. They soon discovered that there is an enormous talent pool with smart and capable people here. They therefore chose to move over their higher skilled positions that require a lot of thinking to Manila. We are about to launch a mini video series that articulates to Filipino workers that they don’t have to be stuck in a BPO job where they don’t have the opportunity to develop higher level skills. The video series illuminates that opportunities exist for many Filipino workers to work at a company where their job is fun and challenging.

The first draft of the video can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sX2f4QCPGbY
We’re intending to fully launch this video in a few weeks from now. Are you interested in speaking with some of our staff or founder on this topic?

Thanks,

Tom GS

Social Media Day 2016

I didn’t know that there is a Social Media Day 2016. This year’s team (in the form of hashtag) is #TayoPH. This will be tomorrow, June 30, 2016 at the Samsung Hall of SM Aura Premier, Taguig City. This event is from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

I’m sure the sponsor is Samsung and it’s definitely all about new gadgets to connect to the Internet and make a difference in our lives through social media. See you there!

Convergys’ Splash of Joy 2016

My current company Convergys Philippines held its Family Day 2016 at the Megatent, C-5 Road, Libis, Quezon City last month. It was my first time to be at Megatent and first time to attend a Family Day. I’m single so I seldom attend events like this.

IMG_8697

The event is full of activities for parents and kids – shower by fire trucks, concert, indoor games, mechanical bull, and carnival games for kids, etc. There are also a lot of concessionaires that offer several foods to employees, family and friends.

There are sample products for the family – mostly milk and cheese – and a booth by Smart. There’s also a giant slide in the form of a sinking Titanic ship. The only thing that pissed a lot of employees is the absence of extra food stub for the invited family members (Plus Two). The P150 food stub is only for the employee.

Convergys could probably have created employees fun day instead since it’s under budget for the food. Anyway, it’s a nice thing to attend and be able to see what it is like in Megatent and to meet fellow employees outside of work.

Voltron: Legendary Defender Season 1 Episode 1

So Netflix made a reboot of Voltron – that legendary robot animation from my childhood days in the 80s. This new version is awesome – graphics wise. I was able to watch Season 1 Episode 1 today and it’s amazing. I’m mesmerized!

Although I’m missing the original version’s introduction and the “mega-thrusters are go”, I’m sure this version will be loved by kids this generation. Good job Netflix in bringing back… Voltron, Defender of the Universe!

Grey Rainbow (A Thai Love Story)

So I stumbled upon a very nice, gay love story on YouTube. It's entitled "Grey Rainbow" and it's the story of Porsche and Nuer.

The story started during their last year in college, when Nuer’s girlfriend broke up with him, because she suspects that Nuer is bisexual. Porsche had suppressed all his feelings for his long-time friend and roommate Nuer until the night of Nuer’s break-up.

Grey Rainbow

It was that night that Porsche confirmed that Nuer’s girlfriend is right – he has feelings for Porsche all along. Their feelings for each other developed until they decided to get married (not legally though). I thought that it’s the end of the love story, since marriage is normally the conclusion of love stories.

Until Nuer’s ex-girlfriend Jane came back, this time with a daughter out of wedlock. So the love story became complicated. You have to watch the rest of the series to find out what happened. The thing I like about this love story is the cinematography and how it incorporates several themes that are relevant to society today.

The short story also talks about LGBT rights, coming out to parents, gay marriage, adoption, how society views homosexuality, non-traditional family, history, etc. I always love Thai gay love stories. This one is definitely worth watching.

P.S.

The film ended in a more elaborate Thai wedding but there’s a twist to it. I also love the film’s use of aerial video and the music (although it’s also in Thai).

Thank you to Paper Plane Subs for the English subtitle. Lead actors are Nutchapon Rattanamongkol (Nuer) and Kasidej Hongladaromp (Porsche).
